Blue Mother Tupelo shakes free from blues cliches
Kingsport Times-News

Nashville Skyline

By Rick Clark

  http://www.bluemothertupelo.com

one of the day's highlights involved

a live Nuendo recording of a rootsy trio

called Blue Mother Tupelo, which I was told was discovered by Tony Brown.

He introduced the band

from the stage and, for the next couple of hours,

everyone was treated to a set of spirited blues rock that included

originals and a smart cover of Junior Kimbrough's “Meet Me in the City.” ..."

                  Bill Perry

Biography

Bill Perry ranks among the best of a new generation of blues performers, blending his stunning mastery of the guitar and rough-hewn blues voice into a remarkable package. His music reflects his New York City sensibility - big city street attitude, grit, diversity and power. His brand of robust blues carries strong characteristics of rock but equal soul and folk influences, resulting in a slightly swampy cross between Bob Seger, Freddie King, Little Feat and the Allman Brothers.
Born and raised in the Hudson River town of Chester, New York, Bill Perry was presented his first guitar at the age of 5. "Right away," he says, "I could play the theme from ‘Batman.'" Like Charlie Parker and Jimi Hendrix, Perry's parental heritage is half Afro-American and half American Indian, and he grew up in a household surrounded by gospel and blues music. "My father used to listen to Jimmy Smith and B.B. King, and my grandmother played organ Online Store Blind Pig Records New Releases Artists Samplers Catalog Fashion Wear & Accessories News, etc. On Tour Links Download Home(see links below)

Miss Blues

 Sittin' In with Blinddog Smokin'...

Miss Blues is a carnival with a dress on.

how an entertainer of this magnitude has

slipped through the cracks of fame and fortune is

a sad testimony to the MTV generation

that apparently has no room on their TV screens for a heart this big.

This woman is more fun than a tickling uncle.

Her personality spills all over the room

like the bubbles of a runaway washing machine.

And she can sing!  Like the primal

scream of a locomotive bursting out of a mountain tunnel.

Her Robust Texas shout style testifies honesty.

Those who can't hear the pathos in her voice reaching back

to the days when slaves had babies in the cotton fields

and chopped the umbilical cord with a hoe, must possess

a small and shallow soul.  Dorothy Ellis is the blues.

Preacher Boy

You discovered him on Blind Pig Records.

You tracked him from California to

Ireland to Brooklyn,

discovering "Crow" and "The Devil's Buttermilk" along the way.

You saw his tours with Eagle-Eye Cherry,

and heard his lyrics and guitar playing on Eagle-Eye's albums

"Living in the Present Future" and "Sub Rosa,"

including the international hit "Long Way Around."
